Sports / Activities

Luz is renowned for its safe sandy beach which forms the centre attraction for many holidaymakers. There are water sports centres where wind surfers and sail boats can be hired. Tuition in water ski and diving are available from the beach. Beside the cliff known as the Rocha Negra an underwater reef produces a break which is well rated by local surfers when there is a decent wave although for more reliable surf you should head to the west coast.

Golf

Praia da Luz can be a great holiday location if you are planning to sample some of the Algarves golf courses. The Boa Vista golf course is almost on the doorstep, being just before the Luz turnoff from Lagos. The course runs almost to the edge of the highest cliff over Casa do Mar.

Water Sports

All types of water-sport activities can be arranged through The Surf Experience Water Sports school. From day trips to the West Coast to water-skiing to windsurfing.

Water Parks

Along the coast there are numerous water theme parks. We recommend Slide and Splash, the nearest one which is just past Portimao. We suggest you take a picnic lunch as eating and drinking there can be quite expensive. One entrance fee lets you stay as long as you wish.

Surfing

The Surf Experience of Portugal is a small professionally run company offering full days of sand, sea and surf along some of the most beautiful beaches of Western Europe. All levels are catered for with board, wetsuit and tuition provided.

Fishing

For deep sea fishing, the best trip to go on is with a company operating out of the Marina in Lagos called Pescamar. The company is fully licensed with all the latest safety equipment and a fully qualified skipper.

Tennis and Squash

There is a sports centre in Burgau, which has a gym, squash courts, swimming pool, and tennis courts. Lessons can be arranged.

Horse Riding

Quinta do Paraiso Alto - See the beautiful countryside on well-schooled horses. Lessons given by UK qualified instructors. Beginners or experienced all catered for as well as special barbecue rides, three day trips etc. Pick-ups arranged.

Microlight Flying

This is available at the airfield just outside Lagos.
